West College, the oldest building on campus, is to be replaced. According to iBerkshires:
In a surprise announcement last night, Williams College President Morton O. Schapiro unveiled an ambitious new plan to replace the oldest building on the Williams campus, the Old West College building.
…
He [Schapiro] could not say when, exactly, the next public meeting on the plans to replace Old West College might be held, but he did say that the groundbreaking ceremony for the new building should take place in time for “leaf-peeper season,” with demolition of the “old brickpile” to begin immediately thereafter.

Well, they already ruined it by changing some of the singles to doubles and letting underclassmen live in it…
They might as well finish the job!

I like it better after the most recent renovation (well, that I know of - it was around ‘99). I lived there one summer (1997 I think) and someone could be 3 rooms away and typing on their keyboard and you could hear it in your own room.
It was great when we were playing networked Quake - we could taunt each other easily, but wasn’t so great if you were trying to have a private conversation, or throw up due to extreme inebriation and didn’t necessarily want anyone else to be bothered.
The renovation added sound dampening and more modern amenities, a welcome change. (I’m curious if they fixed the problem with the scary basement flooding easily - odd that since it was on a big hill)
Although one downside of that was that the roof access was fixed so that it was much harder to get up there and throw things off of it.
