The Star Tribune has a recent article up on the issue of the invasion of the Great Lakes by foreign species.
From the article:
The alien species have created an “accidental zoo,” said Prof. James Carlton, director of the Maritime Studies Program of Williams College in Mystic, Conn. The lakes, he said, have been permanently modified “on one of the greatest scales in any aquatic environment in the world.”
As that little blurb states James Carlton directs the Williams Mystic program.
Clearly quite the expert in the field of invasions of non-native species, and looks to be outspoken as well.
My own knowledge of that area is about zero, but I always enjoy reading about such things from both sides. I never had any experience with the Williams Mystic program, but I know that the few people I spoke with that went through it absolutely loved it and wouldn’t trade it for the world.
