The institution of First Days is clearly one of the biggest improvements to the College in the last five years. I wonder who was the driving force in its creation? See here for Morty’s take on the event. Those wondering what they are missing, can check out the schedule.
Now that WSO has a handy PhotoShare section, I hope that someone posts a copy of the class picture. No word yet on whether anyone thought my suggestion about The Mountains was worth following.

The “First Days” orientation does indeed sound like a great improvement. I remember thinking during Senior Week, “Why didn’t we have a Freshman Week?” Yes, there were some orientation events, but they were not systematic. Particularly for freshmen who lived outside the Freshman Quad, I felt that there was an uphill battle getting to know their classmates.
The “Where are you” event sounds especially valuable. During the 1989-93 period, I saw a number of incidents of town-gown friction. With this community orientation, the college could make big steps toward reducing those problems.
PS. The “schedule” link is broken.

I believe (although I may be corrected) that Morty’s article is slightly misleading. His post infers that all (or most) incoming Ephs go on Where Am I. I’ve been under the impression that the vast majority of students go on a WOOLF trip–the backpacking/canoeing/rock climbing trips led by the outing club. I don’t know the Where Am I webpage, but you can read about WOOLF at woolf.williams.edu
