		<description>David:

Thanks for the note about contributing to the Record. I doubt many people appreciate just how important and serious the request by the Record editors is. Putting our content online really has killed us in the subscription arena, which in turn hurts advertising revenue, and has put the Record in an unenviable financial position.

I'll be honest: As Editor-in-Chief, I believed that giving away all of our content for free was a terrible business model and seriously entertained alternatives (just putting a few articles online, password-protection so only subscribers could access, etc.), but we decided that the public service we provided to the community was ultimately why we participated in the paper and as such we would deal with the serious financial consequences having a free online version causes.

CJ Bak, the business manager of the Record, deserves an enormous amount of credit for the job he has done over the past years, as does Ben Cohen who has somehow kept the Record's technology functioning on far less than a shoestring budget.

And seriously, if you get any utility out of the Record online, please consider a donation.
