Kudos to Joe Shoer ‘06 for taking some extremely detailed notes at last week’s CUL forum on anchor housing and for allowing me to post them here. Required reading for anyone interested in following this debate closely. Although Joe is a leader of the anti-anchor housing side, he seems to represent the discussion fairly. Professor Will Dudley ‘89, chair of CUL, also did a fine job of running the forum.

Williams College Debate Union Debate over Anchor Housing. Brooks-Rogers Recital Hall.
Wonder who is debating whom? Shouldn’t this be in Chapin Hall?

Tammy,
The debates will have one faculty member and one student supporting, and one faculty member and one student opposing, anchor housing.
It is really hard to hold events in Chapin. Something about the music secretary…? Not sure on the specifics, but for some reason, Brooks-Rogers is much easier.

Thanks, Diana. Let us know when you know the names of the people debating, and possibly who chose the debators. There are debators and there are debators. I’ve often heard debates at Williams (yes, Williams) where one side is strong and the other side is weak, and wondered what was the reason to go to hear what was really a speech in disguise.
