You know that you have reached the state of doddering old alumnihood when you can’t recognize a single song on the WCFM playlist.
Speaking of materials that the alumni office ought to save and bring back at reunions, does anyone keep track of the WCFM promos? I fondly remember those from the mid-80’s — several made by my suitemates — that were remarkably clever and, in retrospect, weirdly timeless. Surely other EphBlog readers remember:
I um Hanz.
And I um Franz.
And ve are here to pump you up!
…
Did they know 20 years ago that Arnold Schwarzenegger would one day be governor of California?

We barely had promos from the mid 90’s when I was on the board (2000-2002) and the last time I was in the station, there were few of those left. So unless they kept those bigass 8-track tapes when they renovated… I doubt you’ll ever hear them again.
A good lesson for ‘CFM: archive, archive, archive. And keep updating the formats on which they’re stored, as often as possible. Don’t be like us!

Don’t feel so bad, David. I’m 20 and I can’t recognize a single song on that playlist either. I think it’s more a sign that we’re woefully out of touch.
