For any of you who were outside of Williamstown, or inside a building, last night at about 8:30, here’s what the sky looked like from the science quad over Bronfman and Clark. Four more pictures of the sky are in the extended entry.

The Congregational Church was the building that I photographed the most while I lived in Williamstown. And believe me, I photographed a lot of stuff back then. I always thought it was a shame that it wasn’t “officially” part of Williams. Thanks for the beautiful photos.

Diana, great pictures. What sort of camera are you using? Do you have a filter on it? I see skies like that, but my camera usually fails to capture them. Not that I am implying that is the equipment rather than the artist or anything.

(d)avid, I am using a Nikon Coolpix 2000 camera. My parents gave it to me exactly three years ago, and it has 2.0 megapixels (not that I used all of that to take these pictures). I have no filters, and I did not Photoshop the sunset pictures, except to lighten the ones of the church and the theatre because they were really dark.
I would like to be able to take a time-exposure picture without flash so that they would be bright, but my hands are not perfectly still, so most of the time pictures I take without flash come out blurry. I took these pictures with flash so that the exposure time would be short; of course the flash didn’t do anything.

Diana, I really enjoy seeing your photos here. You’re doing a great thing for Williams folks who are off-campus and missing the Purple Valley. Keep it up! I get back on Wednesday and hopefully I can look to the skies a bit to ignore the gaping holes while they last:)

Yes, Diana, the color pictures are nice, especially since Williams decided to go retro with the calendar it sent to the alumni this year. While nice as a historical document, the sepia pictures don’t conjure up the college memories that your pictures do.

Sepia? My alumni calendar is the usual “Year in the Life of Williams” theme, with seasonal photos, none of which are in sepia tones.

Jared, I was referring to the calendar for the 2005-2006 academic year, which I received yesterday in the mail. Interesting, but not inspiring.
