I am a brand new class agent this year, doing my bit to raise money for Williams. It is interesting and rewarding work. I am pleased to have a chance to give back to the college that gave me so much. In designing my “pitch” for classmates, especially those who have not donated recently or ever, I look for concrete ways of showing them how their donations help current students. How about this?
ACE stressbusters Wednesay night, 7-9 for your delight, masseuses in Goodrich and cookies too, with hot chocolate just for you! ACE stressbusters are the best, come relax and beat the stress!
That’s the ticket! Give money to Williams so that current students can enjoy free massages! Who could be so hard-hearted as to resist? Do it for the children!

Oh, david, you have no idea — the masseuse they usually hire is blind and has this great and friendly dog who can go off duty when his boss is giving massages. The whole thing turns into a love-in among the hyper stressed Williams students, who never get to see furry creatures like dogs.
Yeah, definitely, go Williams.

A thing to note: ACE is largely (completely?) funded through the Student Activities Tax, so the money going to these activities come from students, not alumni.

Everyone that I’ve talked to agrees, the massage therapists are bad, for one simple reason: they don’t press hard enough. You go early to sign up, you wait in line for a while, and after an hour you go in for your… five or ten minutes of someone’s hands gently passing across the skin of your back. So then you eat cookies to make yourself feel better for wasting the past hour, and then you realize that you weren’t hungry anyway and now you’ve wasted an hour and 15 minutes not studying, and then you’re more stressed out than you started with. Well, so that’s a bit of an exaggeration, maybe.

I admit, I never once actually got a massage (line too long). I mainly stayed to play with the dog.

I, for one, am a huge fan of the massages. Unfortunately, Wednesday night stressbusters are not an Oxford tradition.

Diana
radical idea: Ask the masseuse to press harder. I do it all the time
