To current students, this is a very familiar scene. To alums who grew up, as it were, with Baxter, you’ll just have to guess what’s going on here. Where is this place? And what’s going on there now?
There are two more pictures in the extended entry.

I’m assuming it’s students paying for food at the non-Baxter Snack Bar.
You’re correct, we didn’t have any newfangled terminals when we were at Williams (even though such things were commercially available 35 years ago).
Downstairs at Mission…
I miss Baxter
Yeah, I miss Baxter as well. One of the high points of my year is when I can sit in the Baxter Snack Bar and have a grilled honeybun. You can’t beat the combination of good food, mellow ambience, and the lingering atmosphere of erudition.
On a related note, some bright light came up with the idea of drive-by honeybuns at Reunion. On the way out of Williamstown you cruise by a Food Services table set up in the Hopkins Hall driveway, request, “Six honeybuns,” or whatever from the people manning the table, pay a nominal fee, and get to take home AUTHENTIC Snack Bar honeybuns. I hope the person who came up with that idea got a bonus. Another good reason for these hesitating on whether to attend Reunion or not to go…
To further elaborate, that is Linda Bolte, one of the best and friendliest people to ever work the snack bar!
