Legendary Eph football coach Dick Farley will be inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame tomorrow. More details in this Boston Herald article.
A Danvers native and St. John’s Prep grad, Farley compiled a 114-19-3 record while coaching Williams from 1987-2003. He’s the only Ephs coach to post an undefeated season, something Farley teams accomplished five times. He also led Williams to 128 consecutive games without back-to-back losses.
“I guess if you look at what happened over 17 years, it looks like I had a pretty good run,” said Farley, who’s also spent 15 years as a track coach at Williams. “We had an awful lot of good fortune and luck. You don’t do something like that without support and we had the equipment guys, the grass guys, the guy in the chow line, all the little things. You need everyone rowing the boat in the same direction. I had great kids and staff that worked with me.”

If you care, google “dick farley”. There is a host of recent newspaper articles about him.
As someone who only knew Coach Farley tangentially through the track team (he didn’t coach my events, and I only ran for two years), he seemed one of the more down to earth and accessible faculty members at Williams- and as such, he epitomizes some of the best attributes of our alma mater.
