Diana: To assure that there is no confusion please confirm that “homemade” refers to gelato and not something else. My grandkids may, in the future, rely on your representation.

Sweet lord, homemade gelato? What’s next, massage chairs in the great hall? I’m well on my way to becoming a grumpy old man …

There’s a storeroom in Paresky basement with a couple hundred plastic jugs of different gelato flavoring solutions. When I picture someone making “homemade” gelato, the picture doesn’t usually involve someone pouring commercial prepackaged concentrate into a giant industrial foodservice machine.
It’s still damn delicious, but “homemade” might be a bit of a misrepresentation.

It is unfortunate that the latest Alumni Review contained a full spread on blogging (albeit Williams professor blogging) with not even a mention of this “all things Eph” blog. How does EphBlog’s fearless leader respond to this apparent slight?

There is a dining services woman who is specially certified to make gelato (the certificate was displayed in Mission when the snack bar was there). There is a special room in Paresky purely for the production of gelato, so it is made at Williams.
It may well come in plastic jugs, but actually I think this woman has a lot of control over it. For instance, many times in the Mission snack bar after she gave me the gelato, she asked me to come back after I had eaten it and tell her how I liked it, because it was a new recipe. So, I think that it is not merely pouring liquid out of jugs and freezing it.
