Kelly Garcia speaks truth to the WSO regulars.
I don’t know, maybe Democrats or Republicans really are objectively right and one or the other is preaching the Platonic Truth while the other is the anti-Christ. To me it just seems like a bunch of overfed and mentally dulled WASPs are arguing about the best way to continue 231 years of oppression, expansion, annexation, and world domination. All our sorrow will end, I hope, in fifty or one hundred years when Japan, China, the European Union and all the other nations of the world dismember the United States and drive its wasted masses into the oceans to find shelter in their watery graves.
So what’s my point? While I was unloading a truck in the back of a department store, I came upon a massive shipment of Hello Kitty handbags shaped just like the head of said kitty. As I unloaded what must have been hundreds, perhaps thousands from the truck previously mentioned, unpackaged them, and prepared them for the storeroom floor, I reflected on two things. One, they were very cute and adorable. Two, they represented a cornucopia of political, economic, and sociological facts. These ridiculous pieces of crap were licensed merchandise from Japan, manufactured in China with raw materials from the Third World, and sent to a department store in California to be unpackaged by cheap Mexican labor (that’s me) and sold to idiots with too much money (you?).
And that was when I knew it had become hopeless.
Alas, they are not impressed.

Wow. Talk about a confused mess. This author has no clue. As Merle Haggard sang, “They love our milk and honey, but they preach about another way of livin”
Kelly- You should join the military or some other branch of foreign service and get a REAL understanding of what our nation is all about, and how great it truly is. You want to do something about it,SERVE, ah, but let me guess, you’ll do one year in the peace corps, go into investment banking, make a ton of cash, give to leftist causes and CALL IT GOOD.
Whatever! Keep unpacking those hello kittys!

There is a middle gound. One easily can favor a strong U.S. defense and at the same time eschew consumer junk, irrespective of its origin, and other forms of foolish self-indulgence. Or is someone about to tell me that my point is not the point?

David, why would you consider this even vaguely worthy of quoting? It’s nothing more than an incoherent mess. Roy is one of the most consistently troll-like of the “WSO regulars.” Would you quote this as an example of “speaking truth to power”?
Here’s my response, which I think is a good last word on Roy Garcia’s commentary:

Resentement, Nietzsche is often quoted as saying, is the foundation of all moral values. Throw in a little bastardized Fueuerbach…
Nietzsche’s critique is a little more filled with irony than that… and more along the lines of a chart of ‘the transvaluation of values…’
… I was amused, when reviewing conceptions of ‘false consciousness’, to find de Beauvoir quoting Nietzsche, from the Gay Science, with no irony, as an example of ‘masculine hegemony:’ ‘a man who loved a woman with the abandon of the female, would cease to be a man.’ Can she have been fully unaware of the nature of F.’s relationship to Lou Salome, …?
As ‘false consciousness’ goes, Garcia’s hyperbolic statements are an example of the ideology behind the trope, now common in other governments, that ‘English is the language of empire.’ …
/// What empire? Who is the ‘you’ that Garcia so fervently seeks to despise? ///
… and the wry smiles I receive, when I suggest that the coming conflict of cultures and values, is not between ‘the West’ and ‘Islam’, but between the United States and the European Union.

It appears David that you have found your truth-sayer. In reading the link it appears that the author makes several points, when you take apart the sentences to gain a clearer understanding about what ails her. Whether her education will gain her any insight into realizing a broader picture of her landscape is indeed, to paraphrase in her own words: “…hopeless.”
The question to be asked is: was her entry into WIlliams College a success? Her words reveal more an emotional reaction with fragmented commentary that portrays more about her, than what she herself believes is an articulated understanding of the words employed.
She needs to iron my cravats and refresh my afternoon sittings at tea, and listen patiently, for I believe she is out of her realm.
Why is it that we believe that an education will advance all who enter through our doors? The anger that will ensue will tear down the walls of these hallowed halls. An education is not for everyone. And if truth has been watered down to David’s table as palatable cuisine, then we need to change tables.

Guys and/or girls:
“Kelly Garcia” is not a woman. He is definitely male, probably a masculinist, and goes by the name Roy.
That is all.
