Are you a patriotic, athletic Eph with some physical courage? If so, there is nothing better to do next summer then spend 6 weeks at Marine Corps OCS. Jeff Castiglione ‘07 is here today to tell you why.
Have you considered becoming an Officer in the US Marine Corps? Meet 2nd Lieutenant Jeffrey Castiglione ‘07, USMC on Thursday, 9/20 from 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. in the OCC Library. Jeff will talk about his experiences in OCS and the Marine Corps Officer Programs. In October, Jeff will attend The Basic School in Quantico, VA for more specialized training before he is deployed. Pizza and beverages will be provided.
The great thing about OCS is that there is no obligation. You can try it out for a summer, head back to Williams and then have nothing to do with the Marine Corps for the rest of your life. More details here. Spending a summer at OCS was the second best decision I made at Williams.

Or… A person of williams althetic and intillectual power…. could join the Army or the Navy, become a member of the most elite units in the world, draw quadrouple the money in special pay and bonuses, lead smart men with an average age of over 28, and get ten times the amount of training in weapons, explosives, diving, parachuting, language…. name it.
Just a thought.

Outed - are you saying that a Marine Officer is essentially a JA?

Anon 89er- Not at all. There is a ton of good in being a Marine. They have a lot of good programs. What I am saying is, I cannot think of a skill set that the Marines best the elite parts of the other services at, if you want to be the best of the best in just about any field.
Flying Helo’s? The army has that one. Ground forces, The Army has that one. Fast movers- Navy and Air Force. Special Forces, the Army and the Navy have that one…. Tactical Air control, the USAF has that one… Explosive Ordnance and Disposal (EOD), Navy has that one.
As a general outfit, no one shoots harder, or is harder than the Corps. But if you want to be a part of the hyper elite sections of our services, join another branch. The Marines shunned eltism within their branch for years in favor of an “we are all a part of the elite” model. Other branches embrace it. That means years without major funding and the type of treatment it takes to build elite programs where people 1) do not get Bored and 2) get treated and funded like they are elite….which such individuals should, because they are elite.
You want a tight haircut, a great uniform, and to be a part of a very special branch of service, that does more with less, join the Marines. You want to play fast and loose, grow your hair, and be part of a hyper elite outfit where the people are older, more mature, more experienced, better funded (better equipment and training), better paid, and treated better, do your research and join another branch that promotes that type of elitism within the field you are interested in. If of course, you want to be elite?
I have nothing against Marines, but we do have an Army, Navy, and Air Force as well. Do your homework.
That about sums up what I am saying.
