I believe there is a photo of one of Bruce's efforts on the baseball site of the Williams website; the Williams baseball team working with community kids.

Community involvement like that is great for everybody, big and small. But it takes someone like Bruce to make the effort. Good for him!

Sorry, the link is now fixed. Based on that list, his involvement does seem to be in-depth and substantial (including leading the umbrella community service org. on campus).

Jeff:

The second link seems to go to the same place as the first link.

However, if you go to the "Athletes For a Better World" site, and then down to the bottom right, where it mentions nominees, click on more and you will see Bruce's entire packet.

What a wonderful young man. I wish him all and more!

Color me skeptical, but what exactly does it mean "created or was directly involved in 17 community service activities at Williams?" I probably could put that I created or participated in 10-15 community service organizations while at Williams, but it's not an accomplishment I'm particularly proud of--helping the Thursday Night Group chalk or poster every other week for a year is not really an accomplishment that I really thought was resume-worthy. Did Williams create 6 community service groups that are still around at Williams and was he an officer in 11 others? That would be impressive. However, if he simply founded 1-2 community service orgs that are foundering or no longer around, and participating via attending sporadic meetings/occasionally helping out in ~15 others...well that is not so impressive. Now, I hate questioning the accomplishments of a Williams students, especially one up for a very prestigious award. The Grovesner cup is a big deal at Williams and shows that most likely his community service engagement was more than marginal. However, I hate seeing things reported like "created or participated in 17 community service organizations" because it's such an obviously inflated and misleading stat.

Will Bruce once defeated a bear in single combat, but after the fight he let it live because he is in favor of conservation.
