Eph Interview Podcast Class of 1958 Jim Conlan

Posted at 8:33 pmAs I work my way through the class of 1958, I had a chat with Jim Conlan about how different the campus was on weekends when women were around, as well as how to prepare for a pop quiz in Art History.
I do have another interview that I will be posting tomorrow. I’ve been buried with publisher work, as well as doing my May episode of The Invisible Hand. Of course, the April episode engendered no controversy here on Ephblog, so I may post the May one as well ;)

Jim (if I may), if you ever grace E.B. with your voice, I will discuss any one of those subjects (ad infinitum) with you!

Thank you for talking about the Rev. Gilcrest - one of the most extraordinary Ephs of the 20th century. I was sad that Williams did not honor him at the time of his death by making more of his story in the alumni publications. His is a story that deserves to be widely circulated and honored within the Williams community. I hope that Mr. Conlon’s remarks represent just the tip of the iceberg of that effort. At the very least, it would make a great Alumni Review article.

I got an e-mail from Jim. He has listen to his interview and read these comments. From his e-mail:
“There was a comment from Larry George about Charlie Gilchrist. Larry said Williams should have honored Charlie more after he died. I agree that Charlie was extraordinary. If you can get in touch with Larry, would appreciate your letting him know that Charlie received a Bi-Centennial award from Williams, and I think he was in the first group to receive it.”"

Speaking of baseball…the Williams-Amherst commemorative game has been rescheduled. It’s an important one:
“Sunday’s game will determine the champion of the NESCAC West Division as both Amherst and Williams enter the contest with a record of 8-3 in conference play.”
