MSN: (a highly truncated version of my responses):

"Formal" relationship?

It is quite interesting to me that I wound up spending two hours at the end of last night, giving an acquaintance going through a divorce an intensive German lesson -- as a way of getting her to sleep.

If one looked over the "actuarial table" of the experiences of the classes of '92 and '93 at the previous reunions-- in comparison to the classes of '87 and '88, and '82 and '83...

There is a logic here, of the unfolding of human events and of our lives, ...

If only I could have dragged more of the '92s and '93s, over to the classes ahead of them, to that series of examples of the paths available to them... the decisions...

"How shall we live, and what shall we do?"

I'm not disputing that Jenn Mattern does, in fact, have one of the best blogs going, I also have to admit that I discovered it through EphBlog, and I'm glad that I did.

But it's not clear to me whether she has any formal Eph connections, other than apparently residing in North Adams. Am I missing something? If she doesn't have a Williams connection, it seems like she ought to.

JM writes:

Life, love — it all seems like a deadly game to me now. I say this without melodrama. I say this simply, with little hope, ...

There is a divorce epidemic, I am now convinced. It is spreading like wildfire, like the plague. This morning, I bring coffee and donuts and children to his place. (...) When the girls run off to play, D---- and I talk about this epidemic, about all the couples we know who are splitting. We speak in hushed, amazed tones, although we too have been claimed by this plague.
