So, yeah, David Kane was right all along. For previous discussion, see here and here. In other news, Senator Larry Craig (R-ID) still stalks Senate bathrooms, Senator David Vitter (R-LA) still enjoys wearing adult diapers during his visits to DC-area brothels, and the US government still authorizes torture. But let’s just go ahead and crucify former Senator John Edwards right now for all the laws he’s been breaking, I guess?

Oh Ronit…tsk, tsk, tsk…you should know better.
There is after all, no ‘Eph’ connection to warrant discussing and criticizing every little detail of the private lives of these ‘gentlemen’.
So far, that is…

hey Ronit, you can start eating crow and apologizing to Ben Flemming for being such a strident progressive.
August 8th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Apologize for being a progressive? I think not. Progressives might now have to deal with the fact that one of their favorite leaders of recent times screwed around on his wife… but really, so what? How is that even remotely important to the nation at large?
At least progressives aren’t responsible for electing a gang of thugs who committed war crimes, and for whom hanging would be too kind a punishment.

Feh. I am too busy forgetting to think about all the implications of the now admitted fact that a branch of our military attempted the murder of two prominent Senators, and the the FBI has been directed by the White House to cover this fact up for at least three years now.
I always thought Americans would rise up if anyone attempted a coup d’etat against one of the coequal branches of government. I never thought that such a coup attempt could be kept secret like this. What the fuck do we do about it now?
Oh wow! Bright shiny object over there - Democratic ex-politician caught with pants down! Nevermind.

Anon 89er,
The “prosecution by innuendo” of the late Dr. Bruce Ivins in the press as a sole actor in Amerithrax bio terrorism attacks late in 2001 by DC US Attorney Jeff Taylor smells like a dead fish in the hot sun.
Yes, that’s our Amy Jeffress. Now that the case is closed, maybe someone who knows her would give a call and ask her if she can tell us the inside scoop.
They can’t put Dr. Ivins at the mailbox in Princeton NJ and there’s no indication they had an indictment before he allegedly offed himself on Tylenol. Then there is the question of why no autopsy. Isn’t an autopsy standard procedure in a suicide when the subject is under 7×24 surveillance by the FBI, especially when there was no suicide note? The FBI had worked his two adult adopted kids over pretty well, too.
You may recall that claims were made in September and October of 2001 that the anthrax contained bentonite allegedly an irrefutable signature of Iraq WMD. Bush administration officials, neocons in and out of the administration, and Republican Senators - one named McCain - were hobnobbing about Washington telling the press that the anthrax attacks were the handiwork of Saddam Hussein. McCain delivered the news of David Letterman, something to the effect that it looks like we’re going to have to attack Iraq because of the anthrax letters. Yeah, these are the guys I trust to run national security policy.
Now who had sex with whom?

Sen Grassley asks AG Mukasey and FBI Director Mueller to answer some questions about the case.

The unseemly, nasty hyper-aggression of some of you “progressives” surely comes to the surface in defensive response to one of your favorite’s getting caught with his weenie where it shouldn’t have been. You should be ashamed of yourselves, but I bet that you’re not - and your political opponents ought to love your unregenerate nature since much of the undecided political middle is turned off by it.
August 9th, 2008 at 6:42 am
You are joking, Frank, right?
Or do you consider the sex life of an ex-politician to be more significant than than the gang-rape of the Constitution?
I know some honest conservatives who are, if anything, even more angry and bitter than I am. The catastrophe of Republican rule is going to leave center-left Democrats in charge for a generation. If I were as cynical as you suggest, I should be happy.
I AM ashamed. How do I teach my children to love this country when they see the systematic repudiation of its fundamental principles by those in power? They are becoming cynical, and that horrifies me. It ought to horrify you.
August 9th, 2008 at 9:13 am
For starters, why don’t you let this Edwards thing go rather than be so emotional and obstreperous about it? Nobody in the middle much cares about Edwards one way or another. Also cut out the impeachment stuff? It was boring for the middle when Clinton was impeached. It is boring now. Perhaps you could stop the name calling and calmly and sincerely devise and execute a rational plan for the long term benefit of all Americans to, say, significantly reduce the budget deficit and then the national debt? Above all when a moral peccadillo or other shortcoming on your side is exposed, please do not defend it by childishly countering with “but the neocons are worse”.
August 9th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Frank- The political middle will watch this story progress, and the obvious conclusion to this line of media and press are some hard questions for the one candidate in the race who cheated on his sick wife, and left her for a woman half her age. Follow the story Frank- yeah, it goes there.
August 9th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
You are allowed to make a case by citing “the unseemly, nasty hyper-aggression” “defensive response” which you characterize so effectively and direct your response to those who make it.
August 9th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Frank - I am not saying that the “neocons are worse” because that would imply that somehow Edwards is comparable to the neocons. The fact is that the neocons are war criminals, and Edwards slept around on his wife. Those two are not even in the same continuum; they are not comparable in any way. Edwards’ actions are an embarrassment to himself alone. The neocons have helped to destroy America’s standing in the world.
The fact that the Edwards story will probably dominate the news cycle for a while makes me angry. I am no fan of Edwards, and I never supported his candidacy; but this story represents everything that is wrong with our political culture.
When panty-sniffing becomes a more important story than repeated violations of human rights and civil liberties, one can only conclude that Americans no longer deserve a republican democracy, and that they are degenerate and corrupted enough to be happy with fascism.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
You are right - America no longer deserves - for a host of reasons. So lie back and enjoy it.

…always with the rape metaphors.
