I’d say I don’t care, except that just maybe this will inspire some comparison by the mainstream media of Edwards (cheats on ailing wife with blonde society floozy) and McCain (cheats on disabled wife with blonde society floozy) … but I’m not holding my breath …

We have an honor code here at Williams College. There are honor codes society silently observes. With the advent of a more licentious society, have our standards changed?
Though I believe this incident is about infidelity, what would such an incident reveal to us considering the traditions here at Williams College?
Granted, these are not comparable events and though we often here about “It depends upon how you define what Is is”, our society, though prurient in their attached interest in amorous affairs, are quick to abandon their media darlings when “one takes a bite of the apple”.
Additonally, we observe the routine charges of the infidelity of men, who by nature are driven by their overwhelming drive towards orgasm, but are quick to punish these insticts when men are routinely denied consensual release by their loved ones.
The neurosis of sex and the its profound influence within society should be examined within the considerations of self-discipline and the need to control population groups by the state and their religious enterprises.
May the virtuous Clintons dominate the stage with the forthcoming convention. May the media camel jockeys fall over themselves on their innate drive to their next media moment.

Uh…no…I beg to differ. Great minds do not think alike. In fact they usually think ‘differently’ and ‘originally’ and on altogether different subject matter than this total c#@p.
Besides, I think most of the criticism wasn’t about whether it was correct, but whether there was enough of a Williams connection to warrant the amount of attention given it on this site.
Like it or not, adultery is extremely common. And those so quick to (hypocritically) criticize, (for political advantage) the private behavior of our public figures, feed the frenzy that encourages them to lie so proficiently.

I know that I’m not the God damned, shiftless, fundamentally dishonest, incorrigible lier which my enemies are, but my friends and I are merely put upon, humanly fallible, poor wretches who by overwhelming public frenzy are forced into a private, isolated, petty prevarication on rare occasion.

We can all hope to be so honest as John Edwards, who, by his own admission, is actually 99% honest.
I’m glad that everyone who believed the worst in other people was proved right: life’s no place for idealists.

I would refer you to a certain Walter Kaufmann’s interpretations of Hegel (et. al.) to claim that there is no conflict between a re-cognition of the Real and the Ideal, and that re-sentiment and self-deception and their pandering foolishnesses are quite different things… but why bother (certain company excluded from this j’accuse).
