I should have credited the wonderful sculpture in the garden of the Jacksonville MOCA, My apologies to Aprille Best Glover.
The work is “How many angels fit on a pin?” (1997, Wax, Polymar Clay, Wood, and Sand),
From her website:
“Aprille Best Glover is a sculptor who hides/reveals in works that spans from stone & bronze objects to site specific installations. The binding tread is the geometry of the everyday, the mathematics of human biology and elusive alchemical power of placement in space”.
Depression - no question. We are all concerned about Swart and his latest craze of photoshop. I thought his baroque opera obsession was enough to carry him through without Ephblog, but, alas, I see I was mistaken.
He seems to be commenting on the quality of the extended blog discussions and the blog itself by using some form of graphic rather than word-smithing to make his points.
Now, I do find resonance in his crude assemblages. The drinking question to me is moot. We drank, we through up, we cleaned up, we went to class. I do not recall spending time with Dr. ‘Wormy’ Urmy at the infirmary. Indeed, I feel that it was his high alcohol level at one winter house party that prevented Swart from joining Williams-in-sky when he fell asleep in the lap of the snow sculpture on the Phi Gam lawn and was only wakened in time by Harry Hart and the Stompers playing the Saints.
And as far as this incessant demand for more college recognition, I was happier when the positive knowledge of Williams was among the few as opposed to notoriety among the masses.
But I do echo your worry Frank. It is heartening to see your sense of concern for your fellow man.
Rid of him! I’m the ringleader of the Swart Fan Club!
Nay, nay, PTC…IMO, EphBlog without Swart would be like a cake without frosting, bread without butter, a great dinner without wine, (etc., etc.,)… dry and near unpalatable, to put it mildly!
Soph mom- You need to read his moniker more carefully, you know, sound it out, think about it- then you will understand- Especially if you did any time in the PI as a sailor.
PTC,
What are you talking about? Read whose moniker more carefully?
Go back to the beginning. My comment #2 is a twist on Franks, and the gist of it is that ‘if’ Swart were to leave EB, I would go into a deep, dark depression. I then sign it with TERTTLFY, which further indicates my high regard for Dick’s posts. (see acronym explanation in parenthesis of #8, please)
Then, your comment #3 indicated you had misunderstood my comment #2, which I attempted to rectify (oops, bad choice of words) um, I mean ‘clarify’ (with humor!) with comments #8 and 9.
Now (!), your comment #12 indicates a whole new misunderstanding…that I might not know who “Rechtal” is?
(I feel like I am living in the middle of a ‘Monty Python’ movie! Either that or it’s a full moon…)
Much gets lost in translation here on EB. I fear it is the nature of the beast (or ‘blogging’, to be specific). I loathe that aspect of it, especially when it leads to misunderstandings, that then lead to arguments.
You, however, are an inspiration when it comes to an ability to ‘roll with the punches’…a quality that will serve you well when you go into politics. ;-)

Take EphBlog away from Swart, and he declines into a deep, dark depression.

BTW Dick,
Am I mistaken, or is that a piece by the late father of our new and esteemed Coach Alberto (’Slim’) Giacometti, Jr.?

I’m really scared. In my leadoff comment about the college rankings, I originally wrote, but then removed:
“I’d rather debated how many angels can dance on the head of a pin than get into this nonsense again.”
Could it be that Swart and I… think alike?
BTW, the answer is infinitely many, due to the nature of the angel’s existence.

Lol- but without Swarts, this blog would be free of all my fondest dermatologist memories! Now what fun would that be?
You cannot get rid of him Sph mom! No matter how hard one might try, he is indeed, the gift that keeps on giving!

My gosh, what do you think TERTTLFY means?
(This Ephblog reader thanks the Lord for you!)

PTC,
You must read more carefully! I am willing to be misunderstood on many other fronts, but not this one!

I, too, vote for Swart. Great posts.

“Your comment #6 indicated you had misunderstood my comment….”

Also, perhaps a question mark in comment #8 would have helped?
As in: “Get rid of him?”
And a smiley face at the end of # 9 :-)
Although now, I feel like

Soph mom- “Dick Swart”. My post is a poor attempt at humor about his moniker. We have been lost in translation, no doubt. Not to worry.

If you think that using Giacometti within your framework of nonsense as ART, then you have no talent.
This is not ART.
Claiming ART is one thing, having the ability to designate what ART is, may belong to these fakirs of the caravan trade.
I for one, will not vouchsafe a single specimen.
You are frauds that proclaim ART.
This is a bastard-isation of what might constitute what ART was meant to be.
Who are the provacateurs that have taken over our institutions and declaratively have occupied our toll positions?
These people are not loyal to our positions.
Take heed.
And I remember the 300.

Justin,
Glad to see you back, man. It’s been too long!
The 300 live in memory always.
