In the new theme, the video seems to break everything around it, at least in Firefox. In the old theme (under IE), I only see half the screen of the video. Is this working as embedded for anyone? If not, we might just provide a link to the Williams site.
Or not — I found it helpful to put the names to some of the faces as I’m not a big tv watcher and could only have identified five of the Representatives by sight; this made the subsequent remarks much more meaningful and contextualized for me as I could not read the name placards. In addition, the comment later in the event about what powerful positions the group holds — and the diversity of their interests — really hit me during the introductions (and was much clearer in the introduction than in the text squibs). But Ronit is right: if you are pressed for time, skipping to 8:20 will serve you well.
You will especially enjoy the question period, Soph Mom.
And when Barbara Jordan’s name was mentioned, chills rolled down my spine. I remembered so well hearing her speak at a Williams graduation in the ’70s (not long after her role in helping point the way while also holding the country together during the impeachment hearings) and something really moved me about hearing her name called in that place at this time and at this event.
Superficial though it is to comment on appearances, Chapin looked spectacular; I liked and appreciated the Williams name bannered and also carved into the podium; and I was touched by the way so many people dressed up. And then there were images that stuck in my mind: Lewis, seeming laconic but then turning on the passion and also reaching out to comfort/support his colleague; that great duo act that opened the students’ questions; the young kid; the way the answers were addressed personally to the questioner, and a questioner was called back to hear the rest of his answer; who the questioners were; and, finally, something that was so “Williams” in that the final question– so appropriate but also something of a zinger — came from a person in a JA shirt and, because it was the last question, the others in the line faded away and the image I took away was of a leader, dressed in Williams purple, standing tall and strong as he listened to the answers. Seemed like a lot of good future was in that room.
Will! You were wonderful! Poised, articulate, well put together (remember, I’m a mom)…you made us proud! Thank you.
I SO enjoyed that. There were several moments that stood out…but I am going to shut up for now, until more people have had a chance to listen and I have had more time to gather my thoughts.
One thing I came away with…I very much look forward to the return of eloquence… the respect for, and the pleasure to be had… in a well-turned, and heart-felt phrase. I saw it in Obama, and I saw it in this Caucus…and I think… I hope…it’s just the beginning.
IMO, it has been missing all too long, and I welcome it’s return.
sophmom: I mean that these comments barely touch upon what I might regard, if I had attended, to be the substance of the event - namely, what the participants in the event had to say there.

Skip forward to about 8:20 to get past the introducing speaker and numerous rounds of thunderous applause.

Worked fine for me on a Mac, running Safari. Still not seeing the new theme, so I may not be a good one to respond.
Volleyball starts at 9:30 PM EST. We’ll see how that live feed works.

Works fine for me, but like Larry, I still don’t see the new format, and I’m on Mac/Safari.
Thanks P’12 and Ronit. I’ve watched about 35 (very enjoyable) minutes so far and will finish the rest a bit later.

David - works fine for me in the new theme (on Google Chrome). Maybe try clearing your cache and refreshing?

Frank,
What do you mean? Did you go to the event, or listen to the link? What was your impression?
