Darlings, a Sunday offering
Darlings, my beloved old friend Alex challenged me to Say More on my blog. I understand his point, I do. He wants me to pull that ripcord and fly, fly, fly.
I am not ready to fly, fly, fly yet.
It is a funny thing, this medium, blogging. So close and yet so far.
But a small Sunday offering of True Things for you would begin with this…

Thank you
…to those of you who have been so kind and patient, who have not expected phone calls back, who press on loving me and who commit words to personal emails and comments here. Emails and comments (and I read them all) mean more than I am ever able to say at the time. There is no wavy-glass garret window for me to sit beside and write letters to you all, while I nibble on my croissant and sip tea, no time for copious letters of the old-fashioned variety. Email will have to do. But thank you for playing Victorian garret window with me.

The best even if…whatever
H: Mommy, you’re the best mommy in the whole world.
Me: Really? That’s nice, but there’s a lot of good mommies, don’t you think? Maybe I’m one of the best mommies in the whole world.
H: No, you’re the best mommy in the whole world.
Me: Even when I’m mad at you and you’re mad at me? Even [...]

No such thing as neutral
Faces, especially. I like faces a lot. Always have. No neutral there. I sift through photographs old and new, sift through faces in crowds, search faces of people I don’t know well and those I do. Each, even the most reserved or carefully arranged, tells a story—whether the owner of that face wished to tell that story or not.

Oh, it hurts
I spent an hour writing a post and did the CLASSIC late-20th century/early-21st century tech stupidity: forgot to save halfway through. Server melts down, post dies, goes to blog post heaven, where all the diseases of the world and philosophical dilemmas have been already solved and witticisms fly with angel wings all the time.
Aw, [...]

Cold-blooded licker-sniffer
Sophie: But what’s the naughtiest thing Hannah’s ever done? You haven’t said yet.
Hannah: [casually] I killed someone.
Sophie and me: You killed someone?
Hannah: That’s the naughtiest thing I’ve ever done, yeah.

Pole dancing, lap dancing, phone sex or ads
I went with the ads.
But I may have to add phone sex to my schedule as well.
When I earn enough to buy my private jet, you are all so totally invited to rock on over to Iceland with me.
And Dove will keep our skin looking great after the hot springs! And if we leave for [...]

Kung fu castle
Me: (looking at Sophie’s drawing) What’s that?
Soph: It’s a castle. That’s a tower with a princess.
Me: I don’t know if I’m grooving on the princess in the tower. Is she stuck in there?
Soph: (sighs disgustedly) No, that’s the DOOR down there. See? She can get in and out. Besides, the first floor is a karate [...]

Same old New Year, with pepperoni, please
For the same reason I hate sunny days (oh! the pressure to be happy! to smile and say, my, what lovely weather! isn’t it gorgeous?), New Year’s Eve always makes me tense. All those puff-chested resolutions! All that hope being bandied about, recklessly! All the ensuing disappointment! I want to have a happy New Year [...]
